About us
What is SUSTAIN 2?
SUSTAIN 2 offers a unique opportunity to borrowers towards the improvement of frameworks and capacity. The programme is built around a four-tier programme, delivering online and face-to-face trainings. The first two tiers take place online, which gives to the participants the flexibility to complete learning at their pace, while the last two phases embrace a face-to-face approach.
Our goals
Dedicated to sustainable development
We aim to foster a more conducive policy and investment environment for smallholder agriculture and rural development, including at the regional and global level.
Empowering future frameworks
We aim to improve ESC Knowledge, Skills and Attitude of direct and indirect target groups with dedication to equitable, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable rural transformation.
Calling for future works
We aim to leverage better impact on the ground for IFAD’s programme of work, to enhance partnerships and knowledge sharing between and within regions to nurture environmental and social sustainability.
Our actions
To deliver a high-quality, effective, efficient and outreach programme on SECAP, that supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The team behind SUSTAIN2 is composed of members from IFAD and ITCILO.
Additionally, the trainers have been selected based on their experience and their ability to teach and transmit Environmental, Social, and Climate Standards (ESC) knowledge to adult learners who are also active professionals in the sector. The best performing trainers are selected and at each cycle, they are also evaluated for improvement.

IFAD
IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) created in 1977 to finance agricultural development projects, primarily for food production in developing countries. It invests in the millions of people who are most at risk of being left behind: poor, small-scale food producers living in rural areas. IFAD’s mission is to transform rural economies and food systems by making them more inclusive, productive, resilient, and sustainable. IFAD also provides knowledge, infrastructure, institutional capacity, and outreach to rural development practitioners. It is headquartered in Rome, Italy, and is active in more than 80 developing countries.
